There was a local bootlegger in Colchester, IL by the name of Kelly Waggle during prohibition. Colchester was a real hotbed of sin in those days and Waggle was the flamboyant big dog in town, always drawing attention to himself. He eventually got gunned down in the streets, gangland style and though his murder would never be solved, local folks said everyone knew who pulled the trigger. I wrote this trying to capture his story and the feel of Western Illinois in the 1920s.
