I had the privilege of walking both of my parents down that last path of life; a difficult job, but the last great gift we can give those we love. Dad left us in October of 2015. Mom would last only one year more before joining him. Knowing the end was near, I had been by Dad’s side for days pondering life, death, time, and the inevitable loss that would be coming. Immediately after Dad passed on, the first verse of this popped into my head fully developed. I would write the rest of the song over the next year as my promise to Mom to be there for her when the time came.
